Ethnic Associations in Comodoro Rivadavia

History, Culture, and Pride: Ethnic Associations in Comodoro Rivadavia

Danielle Goonan

Immigrants both founded and populated Comodoro Rivadavia, a city located 2000 kilometers south of Buenos Aires. Today, the city of about 200,000 people has at least 25 ethnic associations, including Galician, Spanish, Arab, Bolivian, Italian, Polish, Greek, Yugoslavian, Chilean, Portuguese, Basque, Asturian, Welsh, Paraguayan, Bulgarian, South African, German, Czechoslovakian and Slovakian, Croatian, Andalusian, Brazilian, Austrian, Israeli, and Catamarcan organizations. The roles of these associations has changed since the first association was founded in 1910.
