Public Memory

The objective of the Patagonia Mosaic was to capture the
living memory of not only the people but also the landmarks themselves.
This presentation represents the public memory of Comodoro Rivadavia
as it was in 2003. The collection of photographs on life in Comodoro
Rivadavia are historical recollections of how the city came to be
and the monuments of 2003 represent how the city chooses to represent
itself now, not only to its own people, but also to the outside world.
The
real emphasis of this project is the examination of the use of space
and public memory. In Comodoro Rivadavia the community has been influenced
by such factors as ethnicity, politics, family life, and civic duty.
The diverse nature of the community is expressed through the range
of monuments throughout the city. The analysis of public spaces represent
the development of communities in their experiences that reflect those
influential factors. The commemoration of the public spaces in Comodoro
Rivadavia reflect the unification of the people into one community.
