Held in New York, the first Anti-Slavery Convention of American Women was able to bring together many of the prominent female abolitionists and women’s rights advocates of the day. At the convention, Angelina Grimké gave a passionate speech about the evils of slavery. The Anti-Slavery Convention of American Women broke several customs by bringing together women from various anti-slavery societies as well as women of different races and social classes.
